LONDON : Shoreditch Edition

LONDON : Shoreditch

Oh London, I couldn’t be happier to have returned to your cobbled streets, busy sidewalks, manic markets and expensive taste. London, has become one of my favorite cities in the world! I’ve been lucky enough to get to know the city quite well (in my opinion) over the past two years and although I’ve wandered a lot of areas, the East End may always be my favorite, specifically Shoreditch. I chose the area originally at random and solely based on the fact that it was close to our filming studios for The Royals (an extra hour or more of travel to and from set is THE WORST). Fortunately, I picked an amazing spot!

Overflowing with pop-up restaurants, cafes, vintage stores and pubs, Shoreditch, has a permanent liveliness! This trip I stayed at the Ace Hotel located on Shoreditch High Street in the middle of all the action and minutes away from the Shoreditch tube station. The London public transportation system may be the best I’ve experienced yet and with good reason, traffic is horrendous. Traveling by tube or even bus is generally much faster. You can get anywhere in the city and to/from all major airports (LHR, LGW, and STN). Just down street from the Ace is Andina, a Peruvian restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with bold flavors and original tapas options. They also offer a Peruvian twist on their fresh juices, smoothies and cocktails.

During the summer months I’m all about a great rooftop. Close to Shoreditch High Street is the Queen of Hoxton. A large venue with several floors all offering a different purpose, we ventured straight up to the current Havana inspired rooftop for a few pints. If you’re looking for a great location to host a party this may be an excellent choice! Also near by is the Shoreditch House. A membership is required to enter but if you can find your way in another incredible rooftop awaits you. They also offer a swimming pool, theatre, gym and spectacular views!

Back on the ground and a few streets away pop-up Summer Tales is flourishing! Situated at Red Market on Old Street, this tropical themed food party offers an abundance of snacks, meals, and drinks. Personally I went for the Bel-Air chicken skewer and salad, delicious!

And of course you can’t talk about Shoreditch without mentioning Brick Lane. Vintage store heaven, countless authentic markets, innovative street art and so much curry! Especially on the weekends. Make sure you know which restaurant you want to go to before arriving at Brick Lane because your bound to get harassed by every restaurant as you pass by. You’ve been warned... The street vendors are the best option in my opinion!

Oh! And obviously I'm in London for The Royals. Happy to be back in Ophelia's shoes! Reading the script you never know what to expect and this was no exception! Full of surprises (I can think of one in particular...) all I can say is GET READY!
