“May as well be here we are as where we are.” - AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINAL SAYING
GOLD COAST/ BROADBEACH
Majority of my trip was located on the Gold Coast in Broadbeach. Allie is based there temporarily for work (aka MAKO MERMAIDS!) so I spent a handful of days wandering the area. Every morning I’d make my way to No Name Lane for their amazing soy latte and continue to the beach. I love a good morning walk on the beach!
Loads of great restaurants close by, although not all within walking distance. The Paddock Bakery was by far one of my favorites. Allie introduced me to the CRUFFIN (if you have never had one I highly suggest that you do)! They also serve up an amazing avocado smash with roasted pistachios, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, olive oil and topped with fresh lemon. Simply delicious.
BSKT Café was another gem. Lots of healthy options to pick from and all so tasty! We tried the protein felafel plate and vegan paleo pasta, both were incredible, you can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. The desserts are also “healthy” (raw, gluten free, natural) so you don’t feel bad ordering the raw caramel & peanut butter slice, which was AMAZING!
Our last expedition was to Byron Bay. Just over an hour driving south and we arrived in the town greeted by the iconic sign “Welcome to Byron Bay. Cheer up. Slow down. Chill out”. Which basically sums it up. Byron Bay is a little hippie town filled with artists, surfers, and tourism. Follow the main road to the end of Lighthouse Rd and you find yourself at Cape Byron Bay Lighthouse. The cape is the easternmost point of the mainland of Australia. From there you can descend a trail down the cliffs to the amazing Wategos beach, it's well worth the walk!
The rest of the day we spent shopping. Obviously. Loads of independent shops are found all through out town. Arnhem Clothing being my favorite! Gypsy bohemian inspired collections fill the store with vibrant colors, patterns, and incredible statement pieces.
If you’re looking for a quick (healthy) snack or smoothie Naked Treaties is the place to be. They also make a delicious homemade chai latte. Our last stop before heading back to Broadbeach was The Farm, appropriately located on a farm on your way out of town. A beautiful spot to grab some food, drinks, flowers, groceries, wander around the property or pet some farm animals. Sky's the limit really. They even offer Farm Yoga! Until next time Australia!
